Anthony Fokker (1890-1939), Dutch aircraft manufacturer. As a small Dutch boy, Fokker proved to be too cool for school, and dropped out, preferring to play with model trains and design wheels that could not be punctured. He was sent by his father to Germany and began his studies at the Erste deutsche Automobil-Fachschule in Mainz. In his first year he completed his first plane, de Spin, but it was soon destroyed when his business partner flew it into a tree. “The Flying Dutchman”, as Fokker was known, went on to design many important planes for the Imperial German Air Service, including the Fokker Dr.I flown by fellow crushable aviator, Manfred von Richthofen aka the Red Baron.
Also, the man who made the study of WWI aviation infinitely funnier.
